Tributes are pouring in from individuals and police services across Canada at the shooting death of an OPP Constable near Hagersville. Provincial Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala was on his first day of work after completing probation when he was gunned down while investigating a car in a ditch. It was the first day that the 28-year-old was allowed to patrol on his own. OPP say the officer approached a car that had been reported missing at around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday in the Indian Line and Concession 14 Walpole, just northwest of Hagersville. As he approached the car the occupant fired, fatally wounding the young officer who was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Witnesses reported hearing five shots.
Police put out an alert seeking two suspects, who were seen fleeing the crime scene –25 year old Randall Mckenzie and an as yet unidentified female. Just before 7 p.m., police announced that two suspects had been located in a wooded area and were taken into custody.

A cavalcade of police cars accompanied the removal of the body of the slain officer to the coroner in Toronto. Peel Police officers paid tribute on a highway overpass.
