It was an eventful year in Ontario politics with the Doug Ford PCs winning an increased majority and then implementing a controversial agenda aimed at tacking the housing crisis. In just a few week’s Ford introduced Bill 23, the Building More Homes Faster Act, which represented a major intrusion into local planning, and the Strong Mayor Act which would initially allow the Mayors of Toronto and Ottawa to overrule their council on issues related to housing. He also outraged environmentalists by opening up some of the Green Belt for housing, although he added some lands to the restricted area to offset the incursion. Bay Observer Publisher John Best and CHML’s Bill Kelly discussed the legislative session just past and looked ahead to 2023 in a year-end version of the Bill Kelly Show.
