Verbal attack on Freeland condemned from all sides

In another sign that politics in Canada is rapidly taking on the ugliness seen in the US, was the obscenity-laced tirade against Deputy Prime Minister Freeland as she visited her home ptovince of Alberta, A video showed a man and woman accosting Freeland in the  lobby of Grande Prairie City Hall as she walked to an elevator. The man yells her name and she answers. The man then yells  “What the f— are you doing in Alberta,” while calling her a “traitorous bitch” and telling her to “get the f— out of this province.”The video ends with the woman saying “you don’t belong here,” as they follow Freeland to the elevator.

Response condemning the incident has come from all sides including Alberta Premier Jason Kenny, Alberta MP Michele Rempel Garner and former conservative Cabinet Minister Lisa Raitt. Former Environment Minister Catherine McKenna also condemned the incident. She was subjected to spray-painted obsecenities at her Ottawa constituency office when she was in office.

Freeland was born in Peace River Alberta and said “What happened yesterday was wrong. Nobody, anywhere, should have to put up with threats and intimidation,” she wrote in a statement. statement.
