Teenaged girl killed in Hamilton shooting

Hamilton Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old female after she was shot early this morning.

Shortly after 4:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a 911 call on St. Matthews Avenue. Upon arriving, police located a 17-year-old female with a gunshot wound. She was transported to hospital where she died.

Hamilton Police are searching for two male persons seen fleeing the scene. The males are believed to be in their early twenties. One may have a short brown buzz cut, while the other male has long brown hair. The males ran out of the back door of the residence and fled down an alleyway.

There were approximately five people in the residence at the time of the shooting and police are still looking to speak to all witnesses. Police are also applying for search authority to enter the residence.

The firearm remains outstanding. Police will be in the area canvassing door-to-door for witnesses and any surveillance footage captured early this morning. A search team will be combing the area looking for the firearm. Residents are also encouraged to thoroughly search their property in case the weapon has been tossed or concealed.

The family has requested privacy and time to grieve their loss. The victim’s name will not be released.
