Super volunteer–Jan Lukas awarded the Order of Hamilton

Arguably Ancaster’s most ardent volunteer, Jan Lukas was awarded the Order of Hamilton by Mayor Andrea Horwath at the Mayor’s Levee in Ancaster Friday.

There is scarcely a community event in Ancaster that doesn’t see Jan taking photos and posting them to social media.

Of particular interest to Jan is the annual Ancaster Community Food Drive which has provided literally tons of food over its 30-odd years.

Lukas, a retired Ancaster High School teacher, began volunteering with the Salvation Army at age 7, has been a board members and organizer for countless community endeavors. She was a recipient of the YWCA’s Women of Distinction Award and the Ontario Lieutenant General’s Medal for Good Citizenship. She is also a past winner of the Ancaster Citizen of the Year award.
