The Medical Officer of Health for the City of Hamilton has issued a Cold Weather Alert effective now. A Cold Weather Alert is issued when current or anticipated weather conditions are at or below minus -15°C or -20° with wind chill. For homeless persons, there are reduced options to get in out of the cold.
The Hamilton Public Library which normally provides warm places during cold weather alerts is closed. The only available warming places are the city’s recreation’s centres, but they are only available during normal operating hours.
Overnight warming
As for overnight warming, according to the City’s website, the only location is the Hub at 78 Vine Street. They do not offer beds, but will provide coffee and light snacks. And space is limited to availability.
