Health officials reported 203 new cases of the disease on Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 31,544. This is the lowest number of new infections since March 28 when 151 cases were reported.
There were 12 deaths reported. In addition to recording the lowest new case count since late March the number of recoveries exceeded new cases by 300. The recovery rate now stands at 82 percent.
There are currently 538 patients in hospital, including 120 who are being treated in intensive care units. The overall number of people in hospital continues to trend downward in the province. There was also a big jump in testing with 24,341 COVID-19 tests reported in the last 24-hour period. Testing in Ontario is approaching the one million mark with more than 924,680 tests done so far.
Speaking of testing, Both Premier Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott have tested negative for COVID, after attending a news conference with Education Minister Stephen LECCE who had come into contact with a COVID-positive person. Lecce also tested negative for the virus.
