Nicole Martin excited about new show…and other things

Its an exciting time for Nicole Martin, the recent weekend news anchor at CHCH TV . Not only is she developing a new current affairs show “Trending Now,” but she and her husband are also expecting a daughter. Trending Now will be airing weeknights starting October 11 at 7PM. The program will explore whatever stories or issue are number one that day in terms of social media traffic. “That means we won’t be able to know what the topic is until, in some cases, the day of the show,” said Nicole. She has been with CHCH for eight years now, having been hired after she graduated from Waterloo and then took a post-graduate course in broadcast journalism at Fanshaw College. She anchored the weekend news for six years on CHCH, until this new opportunity came along.

“If the program were on now, we would have devoted the entire program to the Queen’s funeral,” said Nicole, “we won’t shy away from controversial stories that are going viral, either.”

“It’s a dream come true, having built your own show from the ground up, “she said. “Our producer,

Our producer Lauran Sebben and I pitched the show to management and they said OK.”  In addition to being available on CHCH, the program will be available on most social media.

Trending Now isn’t the only news coming out of CHCH. Morning Live announcer Bob Cowan announced his retirement after more than 20 years helming the morning show with co-host Annette Hamm.
