Murdoch-owned flagship newspaper condemns Trump

In what could be a signal that Rupert Murdoch has had it with Donald Trump, the Murdoch-owned New York Post has declared Trump unfit to run for president again. It had been rumored that Trump might announce his candidacy this summer in order to steal the thunder of other potential Republican hopefuls, but apparently the latest round of revelations from the January 6 committee were the final straw for the fiercely conservative publication. The editorial, published Friday, reads, “to (Trump’s) eternal shame, as appalled aides implored him to publicly call on his followers to go home, he instead further fanned the flames by tweeting: “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution.”

“His only focus was to find any means — damn the consequences — to block the peaceful transfer of power.”

“There is no other explanation, just as there is no defense, for his refusal to stop the violence.

It’s up to the Justice Department to decide if this is a crime. But as a matter of principle, as a matter of character, Trump has proven himself unworthy to be this country’s chief executive again.”

The news prompted a tweet from the New York Time’s White House Correspondent.

A scan of Murdoch’s  Fox News website shows no evidence that the TV network is following the lead of the Post, at least so far.
