Man shot by Police on Cannon Street dies

The SIU has announced that the 42-year-old man who was shot by Hamilton Police Tuesday has died. Police had been called to investigate a possible domestic dispute and ended up at a variety store at Cannon and Gage in Hamilton.  Video shows what appears to be an undercover police officer in a vehicle in the parking lot next to the suspect’s car. What appears to be a sawn-off shotgun can also be seen. A marked police char roars into the parking lot and an officer jumps out and shooting begins immediately. The video shows the victim lying on the pavement. commenced an investigation into a police-involved shooting in Hamilton. The 42-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. While in hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased yesterday afternoon.

The SIU continues to investigate this incident. At this time, two subject officers have been designated, and the four designated witness officers have been interviewed. The SIU is requesting anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
