Man shot by police in domestic incident

In the aftermath of a central Hamilton domestic incident, A 42-year-old man is in hospital in critical condition after being shot by Hamilton police outside a Cannon Street East convenience store Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton police had been called to the area around 3:30 p.m. July 7 for a domestic incident.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, police found the person of interest — the 42-year-old man — in a vehicle in the parking lot for Corner’s Variety on Cannon, east of Gage Avenue North, just east of Tim Horton Field and across the street from the Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre.

Several officers approached the vehicle and there was an “interaction” and two officers fired shots, said the provincial police watchdog, which is investigating the shooting.

The man was hit and transported to hospital.

Hamilton police said the domestic call involved a man with a gun.
