Jackson noise motion lauded

Praise rained down on Clr.Tom Jackson today as he presented a motion to crack down on noisy mufflers. The Jackson motion had three components:

(a) That City Council respectfully request a Strategic Enforcement of Excessive or

Unusual Noise from Motor Vehicles by Hamilton Police Services during the

Summer/Fall of 2020;

(b) That this motion be forwarded to the Hamilton Police Services Board for

consideration; and

(c) That City of Hamilton, Licensing and By-law Services staff work in consultation

with Hamilton Police Services to explore a possible partnership between both

agencies to work together in conducting Strategic Enforcement of Excessive or

Unusual Noise from Motor Vehicles for education and/or possible enforcement

blitz’s during the Summer/Fall of 2020.

Council cannot direct police on enforcement issues, but with Jackson, Clr.Collins and the Mayor serving on the Police Services Board, the proposal seems destined for a favorable reception.

Halton police have turned their noisy muffler campaign into a public relation coup—something Hamilton Police could really use.
