Hamilton Police have arrested a 30-year-old drifter after an attempted murder in Corktown Park in the early morning hours of July 3, 2020.
Then around 4.30 p.m. on July 3, 2020, Hamilton Police were called to a purse snatching in the area of John Street South and Hunter Street. The culprit was chased by some witnesses who were confronted by the suspect who produced a knife.
Police arrived moments later and the suspect was apprehended. The arresting officers recognized him as the male from an earlier media release and notified Major Crime Investigators.
Calvin David Horvat (30-years-old) of No Fixed Address made a court appearance today formally charged with Attempted Murder.
Shortly before 4 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, a 22-year-old female was walking through Corktown Park in Hamilton when she was attacked by a male and received multiple stab wounds to her upper body. The victim’s 28-year-old boyfriend came across the attack as it was occurring and the male fled the scene westbound through the park. The victim’s boyfriend ran to a nearby building and asked for a tenant to call 911.
Hamilton Police officers arrived on scene first and performed first aid that was crucial to the victim’s chances of survival. When Hamilton Paramedic Service attended, they took over the treatment and transported the victim to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She is currently still unconscious and is listed in stable condition. The male on scene was initially detained but was released
