Former Hamiltonian takes over as Mayor of Central Elgin

Central Elgin Mayor Andrew Sloan and his council

Andrew Sloan, well known to many Hamiltonians, from his days as head of communications and government relations at Dofasco, has been sworn in as Mayor of the Municipality of Central Elgin. Mr. Sloan was born in St Thomas and returned to Elgin County after he left Hamilton in 2010. He has been operating a construction business there. In the recent Municipal Election Sloan headed a slate of candidates who swept the entire incumbent council to defeat. In his inaugural address, Sloan promised voters they would get the changes that their resounding vote demonstrated was needed.

Central Elgin, with a population of 13,000, was formed from the township of Yarmouth surrounding St Thomas, and has an annual budget of over $30 Million.
