A fire has caused extensive damage at 98 Rosslyn Avenue North as well as a neighbouring house. Crews arriving at 98 Rosslyn Avenue reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the 3 storey home, that was extending into the second floor of the 2 storey house next door at 96 Rosslyn Avenue.
Fire had extended from the rear porch area of 98 Rosslyn Avenue N. into all three floors and roof area of the home and into the second floor and roof area of 96 Rosslyn Avenue N. Crews quickly extinguished the fire at 96 Rosslyn. The fire at 98 Rosslyn had was well involved and took some time for crews to extinguish and there is significant damage. One occupant from 98 Rosslyn was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation and a number of pets perished. It is estimated that the combined damage to both homes will be in the neighbourhood of $550,000 – $400,000 for 98 Rosslyn and $150,000 for 96 Rosslyn. The cause of the fire is believed to be careless disposal of smokers materials. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified because of the resident with smoke inhalation. Arrangements of accommodations for the occupants from both homes are being made by the Red Cross.
