Dashcam video of the arrest of Chief Alan Adam

An RCMP dashcam video of the arrest of Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Chief Allan Adam outside a Ft. MacMurray casino is all over social media. Prime Minister Trudeau told reporters he has #serious questions” after viewing the images.

Wood Buffalo Detachment RCMP issued this news release .

On March 10, 2020, at 2 a.m., the Wood Buffalo RCMP initiated a vehicle stop on an unoccupied and idling vehicle with an expired plate. Allan ADAM was one of the occupants who returned to the vehicle at which point a confrontation occurred. During the incident, ADAM was being placed under arrest and resisted. The members were required to use force to effect the arrest.ADAM has been charged with: Section 129(a), Resisting Arrest of the Criminal Code; and Section 270(2), Assault Police in execution of duty of the Criminal Code.

This incident was capture(sic) on the in-car video system in the police vehicle. This video of the incident was reviewed by superiors as per our policy. It was determined that the members’ actions were reasonable and did not meet the threshold for an external investigation.This matter is now before the courts. ADAM will be in Wood Buffalo Provincial court on July 2, 2020. The video was obtained by CBC and CTV as an exhibit in Adam’s upcoming trial. The full 11-minute video is here.
