Dafonte Miller lawyer calls for federal probe into police beatings.

The lawyer for Dafonte Miller alleged a coverup in the case of the Theriault brothers who assaulted Dafonte Miller in 2017, causing Miller to lose an eye. Julian Falconer says both the Durham Police and the Toronto Police Department failed to report the incident to the SIU as is normally the case when an injury occurs during a police interaction with a citizen. Waterloo police have been asked to investigate the actions of both police departments. Dafonte Miller told reporters this afternoon that he doesn’t consider the fact that a guilty verdict on only one charge as a loss. He termed the conviction of Michael Theriault on a change of assault as a “step forward”. Falconer has called for a federal inquiry into  beatings and killings of racialized individuals in police custody.
