COVID showing some recent resurgence in Hamilton

The latest release of COVID data suggests the COVID picture in Hamilton has taken a turn for the worse in the past week after being stable for several weeks. Hamilton Public Health reports COVID-19 transmission in Hamilton is beginning to increase.

The number of reported cases, test positivity, wastewater signal and active outbreaks have all increased over the past 2 weeks.

Lagging indicators, including new COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU admissions so far, remain stable.

Omicron continues to be the dominant variant in Hamilton and amongst Ontario public health units. Most recently, there has been an increased frequency of the BA.2.12.1 and BA.5 sub-variants.

Public Health reports the seven-day average for new cases is 62, and the number of active cases sits at 177. The positivity rate is down to 5.1 percent on limited testing. Exact hospitalizations figures are not available as HHSC breaks in a new  reporting system.
