Slight easing in new COVID cases

John Best

There was a bit of relief from the soaring COVID case count as the province reported  1,396 new cases of COVID19. The previous day’s number was 1575.  Locally, there are 440 new cases in Toronto, 440 in Peel and 155 in York Region. 19 deaths were reported There are 1,018 more resolved cases and over 40,500 tests completed. Hospitalizations and ICU cases are showing an upward trend with 452 in hospital and 106 of them in ICU. 150 ICU cases is seen as a threshold point where the COVID cases would result in some disruption of regular ICU treatment.

Locally yesterday Hamilton COVID cases were down to 33, the lowest in a week, but there was one death recorded. There were no new outbreaks and hospitalizations increased by two to 20. In Halton  there were 49 new cases reported– the majority of them in Oakville and Milton which accounted for 33 of the new cases. There were no new deaths reported in Halton. Hospitalizations in the Halton Region were up by four to 17 and five of those cases were in ICU.
