Tragic end to search for two Quebec girls

A search for two Quebec girls, believed abducted by their father has ended in tragedy. Quebec provincial police have found the bodies of two girls believed to have been abducted by their father, after a three-day search in Saint-Apollinaire, southwest of Quebec City.

Police have lifted the Amber Alert, first issued Wednesday afternoon, and are now intensifying their search for the father, 44-year-old Martin Carpentier.

Earlier Saturday, Sûreté du Québec investigators said they still had hope of finding Carpentier and his two daughters, Norah Carpentier, 11, and six-year-old Romy, after a three-day search.

Police were focusing the search in a wooded area in Saint-Apollinaire. A Canadian Armed Forces helicopter had joined in the search.

Norah and Romy were last seen at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday with their father in a convenience store.
