Dundas Highway 8 hill closed until November

After last springs flooding washed out portions of the Highway 8 hill in Dundas, a significant upgrade was undertaken staring in April. Hwy 8 will remain closed between Woodley Ln and Park Ave for the duration of project, wrapping up by the end of November 2020, weather permitting. Local access between Hillcrest Ave and Park Ave will be maintained.

The project includes full reconstruction to the road to improve stability and the condition of the road.

Sewer replacements – New storm sewer pipe installation with new catch basins/inlet catch basins. These new catch basins will help to control water levels and reduce the chances of floods.

New sidewalks and curbs – New sidewalks and curbs will be implemented to improve pedestrian/cycling safety and will include features to ensure they are AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) compliant.

Additional Improvements:

All Way Stop Signs

Wider sidewalks

Improved traffic flows

Paved shoulder

Retaining wall replacement

Motorists should follow signs for detour.

Given the significance of this project, the City has launched a dedicated project website to share detour routes and details: www.hamilton.ca/hwy8improvements
