Two Correctional Officers Charged with selling drugs to inmates

Two former correctional officers at the Wentworth Detention Centre and the Hamilton Police Service Intelligence Unit, two former correction officers were arrested and charged.

Following a Coroner’s inquest into the overdose deaths inside the detention centre, Hamilton Police Service Intelligence Unit and the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre jointly conducted a six-month investigation in relation to two Correctional Officers distributing illicit cannabis as well as other contraband to inmates within the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre.

As a result of the investigation, former Correctional Officers James Mcrae and Pierre-Luc Plouffe were charged. Both worked independently of one another to distribute contraband within the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre and are no longer employed as Correctional Officers.

Charges Laid in Airport Road Fatal

Charges have also  been laid following a fatal collision June 3 on Nebo Road at Airport Road. A Honda Civic and a Ford Escape collided in the intersection and a woman who was in the Honda later died of her injuries.

Hamilton Police Service was assisted by the Niagara Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit in this investigation. The Niagara Regional Police Service formulated grounds as a result arrested and laid criminal charges against a driver on June 19, 2020. No name of the accused has been released, as a result of a publication ban.
