Ontario Ombudsman will investigate Long Term Care homes

Invoking his independent powers as Ontario Ombudsman, Paul Dube says his office will investigate the long-term care system in Ontario. A news release today says, “the investigation will focus on whether the oversight of long-term care homes by those ministries during the coronavirus crisis is adequate to ensure the safety of residents and staff.” The move comes as Premier Ford is under pressure to call an independent enquiry into the province’s long-term care system. He has promised an inquiry, but the opposition wants it to have subpoena powers. Full text of Mr. Dube’s release follows.
