Burlington Fire Chief is gone

The city of Burlington is losing its fire chief but the city is mum about why. The departure of Fire Chief Dave Lazenby who was only hired three years ago was confirmed by a city spokesperson. There has been significant churn in senior city staff since the new council was elected, including the city manager

Kwab Ako-Adjei, a spokesperson with the city, confirmed Lazenby’s departure saying only,“The City of Burlington does not comment on specifics of personnel matters. We would like to thank Dave Lazenby for his service as fire chief over the last three years.”

The departure of Lazenby comes less than a year after deputy fire chief Richard Renaud left the city’s employment. Renaud was in that position for less than a year.

The Burlington fire department has about 200 full-time staff and 65 volunteers, covering 189 square kilometres of urban and rural areas in the city.
