t was good to see the Ontario legislature provide a unanimous tribute last month to Eric Cunningham who served as Wentworth North MPP from 1975 to 1984. Eric Cunningham loved the legislature and was an outstanding champion of good government and fairness. It was fitting that two former Prime Ministers were on hand—John Turner for whom Eric resigned a relatively safe seat in Ontario to run as a federal candidate; and Paul Martin who provided Eric with employment after the rout of the Liberals in 1984. All parties rose in tribute to Eric; but most touching were the completely non-partisan remarks by Tory MPP Tim Hudak and NDP member Paul Miller of Hamilton. It was a moment that proved there is still a place for collegiality in an institution that could use more of it.
