Upon arriving to a restaurant, the first thing one would usually do is look to see what’s on the menu. However, at some restaurants, what’s not on the menu is what’s causing a craze.
“Secret” or “hidden” menus, as they are referred to as, have been gaining popularity at fast food, as well as sit-down restaurants.
So what is a secret menu? It’s when the customer can order items that aren’t listed on the menu. They may include asking for the kitchen to make them a custom meal, or simply combining the elements of a couple different menu options. How would one discover secret menu items? Most likely through social media or by word of mouth, since these items are not advertised.
Most notably, fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s, Subway, Starbucks, Burger King and KFC have been major players in the secret menu world. McDonald’s has a few popular secret menu items including their version of KFC’s double down sandwich called “The Big Chicken,” as well as the “Mc10:35” (referring to the time that the restaurant switches from breakfast to lunch) which is a mash of breakfast and lunch items together on one burger.
