Hamilton blues legend Rita Chiarelli will perform her award winning blues and a few of her renditions of classic Italian tunes in Hamilton August 8th; but with a slightly bigger backup band than usual. She will be performing with Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra August 8th at the Bay City Music Hall (nee Leander Boat Club). Recently Rita teamed up with Bruce Mc- Donald, Canadas “pre-eminent bad boy of filmmaking” to film Music From the Big House – a performance documentary at Louisiana’s infamous Angola Prison. Known across Canada as the “Goddess of the Blues” Rita Chiarelli possesses a soaring 3 octave voice. Over the past five years she has released Cuore, a recording of traditional Italian folk songs, which won the World Music category at the prestigious Canadian Folk Music Awards; Uptown Goes Downtown Tonight, a highly acclaimed collaboration with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra; and the aforementioned Music From the Big House. Her latest CD Sweet Paradise, heralds a return to Chiarelli’s blues roots, and is her first album of all original tunes since 2001’s JUNO nominated Break- fast at Midnight. The performance will take place Friday August 8, 8 pm Bay City Music Hall. For tickets http://www.brottmusic.com/
