Burlington’s John Beeden, the first man ever to row across the Pacific Ocean from Vancouver to Australia, received a special plaque of recognition from Mayor Rick Goldring at city hall. Beeden was alone in his small boat for 209 days while completing the 7,500-nautical mile journey, in spite of 15-foot waves and the threat of sharks.
