Don’t forget to pick out a comfortable pair of shoes for a day of fun!

In January, 2013 Burlington musician Tim Park and music afficianado David Whale sat down for a coffee and a discussion about the Burlington music scene. Both agreed that music is alive

and well in Burlington and is an integral part of life in the city for residents of all ages.

Burlington has a rich music history with its Burlington Sound of Music Festival, popular Burlington Teen Tour Band who are ambassadors of the city world over and a number of main stream musical artists who have had great success (Walk Off The Earth, Sarah Harmer, Finger Eleven and Mychael Danna to name a few). Tim and David spoke to performers who wanted to be able to play their own music in a professional venue.

The only problem was being able to afford promoting their own show and managing all the details. David and Tim approached the management of The Burlington Performing Arts Centre and discussed the possibility of doing a concert series and the costs involved. They also approached local businesses to see if they would be interested in sponsoring their concert series. Long and McQuade Burlington agreed to sponsor the series for its inaugural season and the Live and Local Music Series was born!

The three-concert series was created as a way to promote talented musicians from the Burlington/Hamilton area.

The reasonable ticket price of $20, appealed to a wide range of music lovers in the Burlington area and allowed them to hear new musicians they may not have known existed. A series package was also offered – all three shows for $50. The Community Studio Theatre at The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is an intimate space with great sound. Each show consists of two feature performers each taking the stage for a one hour set.

The first season was a great success!

Featured musicians were: Kendall Mitchell, Terra Lightfoot, Bianca Bernardi, Tomi Swick, Adam Cooke and The Killin’ Time Band. The musicians loved the theatre and the ability to play their music to an appreciative crowd.

Our second season:

September 19, 2014 – Kirby and Sonny Boy Mick

November 21, 2014 – The Tallest Tree and Karen Thornton (CD Release)

April 10, 2015 – The Red Hill Valleys and The Human Orchestra
