Today, the Federal and Ontario governments joined with Hamilton’s Municipal Government, TradePort International Corporation and Cargojet Airways to celebrate the grand opening of the $12 million Air Cargo Centre at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.
Joint funding of the 77,000 square foot facility was announced in January 2013 and will support the expansion of cargo operation at the Airport, and stimulate job creation and economic development for the City of Hamilton and greater region.
“We’re thrilled with the new Cargo Centre and look forward to the opportunities it will help facilitate at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport,” said Frank Scremin, President and CEO of John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, “This facility will allow us to maintain Hamilton International Airport’s dominant presence in the overnight express cargo segment in Canada, and create new opportunities to diversify the types of goods that can be processed through the Airport.”
Present at today’s announcement: Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and MP Haldimand-Norfolk; Honourable Liz Sandals, Minister of Education and MPP Guelph; Dean Allison, MP Niagara West-Glanbrook; Wayne Marston, MP Hamilton East – Stoney Creek; Brenda Johnson, Councillor Ward 11; Lloyd Ferguson, Councillor Ward 12.

- Cargojet will be anchor tenant of the facility, occupying approximately half of the space
- It is estimated that this project will potentially generate 400 jobs through direct and indirect economic activity
- John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport and its partners are responsible for over 2,700 total jobs and over $34 million in federal, provincial and municipal taxes each year
