For Emily St. Clair her 18th birthday, always an important personal milestone is even more memorable than usual. Emily is one of 20 high school students from across Canada to win a TD Scholarship for Community Leadership valued at up to $75,000. Emily, who is graduating from Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School was honoured for her role in spearheading the first Crown Point Youth Council. The council meets regularly over food and plans events like an adopt-a-park program and neighbourhood cleanups.

Emily maintains a heavy schedule of community activities including coaching Crown Point Youth Soccer, teaching guitar lessons at the Boys and Girls Club, and being a community consultant for a McMaster Community Development Course. She participates in a range of activities in church including children’s ministry, leading worship, outreach projects, and organizing the “Get to Church Green” event. At Sir Allan MacNab she is the President of the Music Council, the President of the Math Club, a team member of the soccer team, and a participant in a discussion forum called Invisible College.

Emily has picked the University of British Columbia where she will study science and perhaps head for a careers in neuroscience. She is looking forward to the BC scenery and a chance to do some backpacking. She says her parents Greg and Mary are a little nervous about her going so far away, “but still they are pretty excited,” said Emily.
