3Crumbuns Bakeshop Cafe, located down the street from Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre is helping to transform health care on behalf of its customers. In appreciation of the care family received at Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation supported sites, Crumbuns Bakeshop Cafe joined the Care4 cause marketing program. On behalf of the cafe’s customers, net proceeds from the sale of /Carter’s Buttons/ cookies are donated to McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation, and net proceeds from the sale of /Candy Cookies/ are donated to Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation.

The cafe is a tribute to pastry chef Joanne Emberson’s grandmother, who was affectionately nicknamed “Crumbun” by Joanne’s grandfather. “When I was younger and my grandmother was in the hospital, I would bake her treats to cheer her up,” says Joanne. “I promised her I would open up a bakery in her honour and I worked hard to make that into a reality for both of us.” Joanne partnered with long-time family friend and food industry expert John McQuarrie to open the shop. Both Joanne and John believe that kindness is contagious.

The Care4 program is an innovative fundraising partnership that facilitates businesses in making a financial commitment on behalf of their customers to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. When consumers make a purchase from a Care4 partner, a portion of the purchase (unique to each partner) directly supports patient care, education, research and equipment purchases across the supported sites of Hamilton Health Sciences.
