With warm air of spring finally gracing us, the wardrobe fun is about to begin. Garden parties and barbecues are going to start popping up, and these five great new dresses will have you covered and comfy. Coming out of winter months it’s typical to want to cover up those few hibernation pounds, these new spring dresses will do just that.

The dress is an easy, simple, and comfortable piece, perfect for spring get-togethers. Comfort is as important as style when it comes to backyard shindigs. The cocktails will be flowing and the food sizzling, so clothes need to be comfy and still flattering to your figure.

The faded indigo of J. Crew’s new Chambray shirtdress gives the effortless look of your favourite, worn-in tunic. For $138.00, it’s a nice, light blend of cotton and linen, making it perfect attire for warm afternoon barbecues. Pair it with this adorable anchor belt ($68.00 from Tommy Hilfiger) to cinch in at the waist and give the tunic an hourglass look.

This corset bodice dress, also available in black, from Victoria’s Secret is a statement piece at any barbecue. This dress ($79.50) is classy and simple, making it easy to dress it up or down, depending on the situation. The pleats and strategically placed seams on this dress give it a great illusory structure, without it feeling stuffy. The fun open back can be covered up with a cute jacket or bold cardigan on those chilled spring nights.

The country inside the girl comes out with this Gingham Fit & Flare Dress by Taylor Dresses for $137.93 from Nordstrom. This dress is perfect for backyard get-togethers; it’s comfy and cute, with a timeless pattern. Like most of these dresses, the small belt around the waist will give a beautiful nice, feminine frame. You can wear this dress with heels or sneakers,  pretty much anything works in the country. Pair with accentuating, bright-coloured accessories to give the outfit that spring punch.

Also new at Nordstrom is this Betsey Johnson floral Fit & Flare dress for $127.15. Floral for spring, nothing new here, but this dress is so flowy, flirty and fun. The lace trim and side panels cinch in any waist, and the mix of blues and reds look good on nearly any skin tone.

H&M always provides affordable new spring dresses each season. For $29.95, it’s a good dress to romp around in, play with the kids, or lounge by the pool. Available in three different patterns (the navy with polka dots is the best), it’s got a flattering elastic waist that’s not too constricting. This dress is versatile enough to wear during a spring day of running errands, into a spring night of eating barbecue with friends. Also, for an extra layer over nearly any dress, H&M has a great selection of affordable cardigans in a variety of colours and patterns. The cardigan is a staple in any wardrobe.
