8:13 pm, Pacific Standard Time, MSNBC announces that Ohio has been won by Barack Obama bringing him to 274 Electoral Votes and therefore re-electing him as the President of The United States of America.
I was fortunate enough to be with some of the most talented political organizers I have ever seen. The couple whose garage and house was used for three weeks as a territorial office picked up and hugged there two small children, smiled at everyone else and told me that their faith in the United States has been reaffirmed.
The 15 people running this office had an average of maybe 24 years old. They have dedicated the better part of a year for this moment. The word “impressive” is often used too much, to the point it has lost it’s value. In this case it fits these wonderful people perfectly.
The hard work is over and now it’s time to party. We were lucky enough to be invited to the Nevada Victory Party at The Mandalay Bay Casino and Hotel.
As we talked about driving to the hotel it was suggested that our cars honk their horns by a certain area. I learned latter it was the gated community where Sheldon Addelson lives. For those of you who do not recognize this name, he is the Casino owner who has spent 100s of Millions of dollars on the campaign viciously attacking the President and apparently a major Founder of the Tea Party.
“People defeated money tonight” someone said.
This is going to be a very long night, a fun night, but a very long night.
I ‘ve learned a lot this week, made a few new friends and understood a little more why the U.S. truly is a great country.
