New for 2017 the beloved Hyundai Genesis is no more. Instead, Hyundai has transformed the Genesis name into its own luxury brand. Similar to what Infiniti is to Nissan and Lexus is to Toyota, Genesis is now the new kid on the block when it comes to luxury automobiles.
The Genesis G80 is the smaller of the two cars compared to the G90. The 2017 G80 is available in two different versions: a rear-wheel-drive, 5.0-liter V-8 that makes 420 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and a smaller 3.8-liter V-6 engine with available all-wheel drive that puts out 311 hp and 293 lb-ft of torque. For both variants there is an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Equipped with the G80 is four different driving modes—eco, normal, sport or snow. Depending on the mode, the car will adjust its throttle response, transmission and stability.
Overall the Genesis G80 will provide you with a quiet and luxurious cabin with a stable ride, everything you would expect in its category. But with a starting price of $54,000 that can easily go over $70,000 for the V-8 option, whether or not the price is justifiable is up to you.
